Four Things To Know Before Renting A Dumpster

If you plan to remodel a home in the near future, you may need to rent a dumpster (click here for more information) to dispose of the debris. There are many things to take into account before renting a dumpster, though. The guide below walks you through a few things to find out before renting a dumpster to use for your remodeling job.

Consult with the HOA for Your Neighborhood

The first thing you will need to do is to talk to the HOA for your neighborhood to find out what restrictions and guidelines they have for dumpster rentals. The HOA will be able to let you know where you can have the dumpster parked within the neighborhood, how long it can be parked in that location, and how large of a dumpster you are allowed to rent. If you do not comply with the guidelines the HOA specifies, you could get fined for breaking their rules.

Consult the Dumpster Company About Proper Placement

Next, you need to contact the dumpster rental company and have them send an associate to the location of the remodeling job. Discuss with the associate the information that the HOA gave you and find out if they can place the dumpster in the exact location the HOA has specified as the location you can place the dumpster. Dumpsters do not have a great turn radius so they will not be able to maneuver between trees or tight buildings easily.

Determine the Dump Schedule for the Dumpster

Before renting the dumpster, you need to be sure that you know how often the dumpster company will empty the dumpster. Be sure that it is specified in the contract exactly what dates the company will empty the dumpster. Find out if you are going to be charged for each time it is emptied or if you simply pay a flat rate for the rental of the dumpster.

Determine What Can and Cannot Be Placed in the Dumpster

You also need to make sure that you find out what can and cannot be placed in the dumpster. Some dumpster rental companies have no restrictions as to what can and cannot be disposed of and others have specific things that cannot be placed in the dumpster. Appliances are commonly not allowed in a dumpster because they have to be disposed of in a very specific way.

Once you know all of these specifications, you can rent the dumpster and know that you will be able to easily dispose of the debris that you take out of the house. Dumpster rental companies will allow you to keep the dumpster for as long as you need it, as long as you are paying for the rental.
